The Erattachira Kovilakam is a historically important structure where the coronation ceremony (Ariyittu Vazhcha) of kings of the erstwhile Kochi kingdom was held. A part of it is now functioning as godown of Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSCL). The palace measuring 6000 square feet got the name Erattachira as there was twin water bodies (chiras) attached to the Siva temple in front of the palace. As it was a palace belonged to Gangadara Thrikovadikal, the Perumbadappu Mooppil who was in charge of the coronation ceremony, the palace also has the name Gangadara Thirukkovil. Karimpatta Chimmukkutty, the second wife of Shakthan Thampuran used to live in this palace.
